MgO Boards are fire resistance, moisture resistant, mold and mildew resistant and strong

Novo MgO Boards (Magnesium Oxide) is a type of sheathing board similar to gypsum board or fibre cement board – however with several improved characteristics such as fire resistance, weatherproof, strength, resistance to mould and mildew, flexibility, adherence advantages and so forth.

It can be used for a number of applications including ceiling, partitioning, external cladding, fascia, tile backing and underlayment.

Novo MgO Board comes in various thicknesses and sheet sizes. It is available in the following thicknesses: 3mm, 6mm, 10mm and 15mm. The common sheet sizes are 1200*2700mm and 1200*3000mm.

MgO boards

Fire, mold and insect resistant as well as impressive strength makes MgO boards suitable for a wide range of applications

Novo MgO Board consists of 5 layers:

  1. Facial surface layer
  2. Fibreglass net reinforcing layer which makes the board durable and stable
  3. Filler layer (includes magnesium cementing agent, perlite and wood chips)
  4. Second fibreglass net reinforcing layer
  5. Filler layer of the inner side
Magnesium Oxide Boards

Magnesium Oxide is a refractory material, which means it is physically and chemically stable at elevated temperatures

Novo MgO Board Composition

  • Magnesium oxide [MgO] (40%)
  • Magnesium chloride [MgCl2] (3%)
  • Wood chips (15%)
  • Perlite [SiO2] (5%) (volcanic glass)
  • Small glass cloth (1%)
  • Linking composite materials (4%)

Novo MgO Board is made by the above formula of chemicals. The stable magnesium celluloid is reinforced by fibreglass netting. It has the advantageous features of being light weight, strong, very low contraction properties, flexible yet impact resistant. It has excellent drainage properties, is fire resistant, and is very easy to work with. It can become waterproof by sealing it; corrosion proof and plasticity are better than wood, paper surface plaster board or gypsum board and fibre cement board. Most importantly Novo MgO board is cured without the use of any heating and thus using very little energy unlike gypsum board and fibre cement board. This makes it greener.

Novo MgO Board Main Uses and Benefits

FIRE PERFORMANCE

Novo MgO board is non-combustible and can achieve fire ratings as high as 4 hours given the correct installation it can be used for sound studios, schools, public areas, movie theatres, train partitioning, bus partitioning, boat partitioning, shopping centres, any area where the fireproof function is necessary.

It is classed A class as tested by many international testing authorities. It has been tested to the American and British standards for fire. The South African bureau of standards testing requirements meets those of both the American and British testing requirements.

MOISTURE RESISTANCE

Novo MgO Board retains its excellent dimensional stability even in damp and humid conditions and can be installed at an early stage in the construction programme, before wet trades are completed and the building is weather-tight.

SOUND ABSORBTION

Novo MgO 10mm Board will provide the same and better reduction in sound as a standard 123mm wall made of four layers of 12mm gypsum board, which is equal to the soundproof of effect of a 150mm common solid brick wall.

BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL RESISTANCE

Novo MgO Board is resistant to mould growth, most chemicals and attack by rodents and insects.

LIGHT WEIGHT AND HIGH INTENSITY/STRENGTH

Novo MgO 10mm Board weights 10.7kg/m2. When using a steel frame and Novo MgO Board as cladding the weight is about 1/10 of that of a common cement brick or clay brick wall while the anti-impact intensity is 2-3 times that of a normal plaster wall. It can be easily installed and the construction time is much shorter.

ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES PREVENTION & ANTISTATIC

Novo MgO Board is suitable for use where electromagnetic waves interception and static electricity prevention function are necessary. Such as operating theatre’s, X ray rooms of the hospital, laboratories, cleaning rooms, electronic component assembly area, film factories, any area which requires the reduction of electromagnetic waves and/or antistatic environments.

MDF SUBSTITUTION

Novo MgO Board is used commonly instead of MDF because the MgO board surface condition is clean.

OSB SUBSTITUTION

Novo MgO Board is a substitute for OSB ply woods to help strengthen in the residential industry or the steel frame housing industry.

FLOORING SUBSTITUTION

Novo MgO Board is commonly used as flooring.

Novo MgO Boards contains:

  • No organic solvents
  • No oils
  • No toxic ingredients
  • No heavy metal salts
  • No asbestos
